First edition bound in black cloth with gold spine lettering. Pictorial endpapers. Illustrated with brown tinted plates and black & white line drawings through out. A Near Fine copy in a Fair to Good dust jacket. Previous owner's book plate is affixed to the front endpaper. There are a few tiny dust spots to the outer edge of the page block. The dust jacket has a 1" x 1" chip at the front panel's upper left corner. Chipping/creasing along the head and heel of the jacket's spine. Small edge tears. Rubbing along the folds. The front fold is split from the panel at its lower 3". Dust soiling to the rear panel. Shipping weight is three pounds. Additional shipping charges will apply to international orders. An artist's memoir, generously illustrated with full-page and small, brown and white half-tone plates, and with numerous large & vignette pen-and-ink scenes, soldiers, cultures and people from the various places he traveled including, India, Africa, China, the Philippines, Mexico, Japan, Russia, Germany, and more. Includes portraits of Douglas MacArthur and Pearl S. Buck. Balridge was a war correspondent and artist in WWI, and was in the National Guard to repulse Pancho Villa in 1916, a stretcher bearer in the French Army, joined the AEF, was a major illustrator for the Stars And Stripes newspaper, a prominent magazine cover illustrator, and then traveled the world. A touch of rubbing to the lower shelf-edges, else very good plus in black linen with yellow and pink embossed titles to the spine; in a price-clipped very good dust jacket with a collage of persons with a self-image illustration by Baldridge to the front panel, slight soiling to the rear panel, rubbing at the spine and flap folds, nicks and tears to the upper and lower spine edges, shelf-edge nicks and tears, and reinforced to the verso of the spine with brown paper support-tape.
