Two volumes. First Edition, first printing. Medium 8vo. (230 mm) xxiii, 436, (4); xvii, 441, (2) pp. 388 photographs (including two frontispiece with browned tissue-guards), sketches and drawings by the author; 11 maps, the four in vol II folding (and including an extra map from vol III). Original brick red cloth with a embossed gilt figure of a Tibetan man to upper board on each vol; edges and corners slightly rubbed; minor shelfwear to head and tail of the spine which is also sunned and lettered in gilt. A very good copy, clean and bright. A third volume was published separately in 1913. Seller Inventory # 10104

Red Cloth Hardback. Condition: Very Good. Reprint. 1988. Reprint. xv, 148pp., a frontispiece map and 4 black and white illustrations. Sven Anders Hedin (1865-1952) was a Swedish geographer, topographer, explorer, photographer, travel writer and illustrator of his own works. During four expeditions to Central Asia, he made the Trans-himalaya known in the West and located sources of the Brahmaputra, Indus and Sutlej Rivers. His 'Transhimalaya' was originally published in Stockholm in 1909 in two volumes, with as third volume appearing in 1912. This book is an abridged and adapted version, first published in 1934. The book is bound in the original red cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear on the boards and some bubbling to the cloth on the rear board. There is a small dent in the cloth near the middle of the front spine edge. The contents are tight and clean with no inscription. Seller Inventory # gTibet01
