Opposition to integration was bitter and bloody, but obedience to the law began to make headway. This is the story Mr. Muse, himself a former Virginia Senator, has to tell ; a story of which The New York Times Book Review of May 31st 1964 said: ".this book is perhaps the most accurate, comprehensive fully documented work of its kind, undoubtedly one of lasting value. The impact of the decision, from the initial reaction of the Southern whites - surprisingly free of frank hostility - to the civil-rights revolution that developed near the end of the decade, is treated with precision and balance".' (Quote from inside front jacket blurb). ***An uncommon and scholarly first edition title on American Civil Rights. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Seller Inventory # 1919
