Printed by William Fry. Two volumes, hardcover in Good+ condition, 8vo, pages: Vol.I: vi,[vii-viii],399; Vol.II: iv,384. Full leather with gilt rules on spine, red leather spine labels, tables of changed names, English index, Latin index. Volume I contains chapters on pharmeceutic chemistry, narcotics, tonics, astringents, emetics, diuretics, etc; Volume II details formulations for tinctures, syrups, salts and powers for various uses, etc. Boards rubbed, tips and spine ends lightly worn, foxing of leaves, some damp stain. First U.S. edition. Ownership signature of Dr. A. Taney (on front paste-down and title page of each volume; possibly Augustine Taney, 1798-1853, died of cholera, Emmitsburg Maryland). Bookseller accession no.: 20061. John Murray (1778-1820) was a Scottish physician/scientist and author of books and articles on geology, chemistry, and pharmacy.
