About this Item
1923. xvi, 671pp. 630 b&w photo-process engravings. The author, Minister of Bower, was Lieutenant, 5th Battalion The Seaforth Highlanders, and Bard to the Gaelic Society of Inverness. From the Preface - "This book was at first intended to be a personal and local record, but later widened its scope so as to give a view of the general effort made by he Northern Highlands in the Great War. It is not a history, but rather an impression. I only put one stone to the cairn. As the Nothern Highlands are practically indentical with the recruiting area of the Seaforth Highlanders, the Cameron Highlanders, and the Lovat Scouts, we deal chiefly with these regiments. Their splendid record of fighting, however, is paralleled by that of their comrades - the Regular, Territorial, and Service Battalions of the Gordon Highlanders, the Black Watch, the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, and the Scottish Horse". Original red cloth with gilt titles to spine and upper board. Standing Scots soldier in gilt to upper board. Light soiling/foxing to spine. Light foxing to edges and endpapers. Contents clean. Binding tight. PLEASE NOTE - Heavy book so extra shipping will be required for non-UK customers. Seller Inventory # MilScot048c
