"Susie Mariar" is an old Folk rhyme. The version presented in this book is reported to be from the collection of Dr. James M. Carpenter and is primarily from the southern version of the rhyme, however, there are additional rhymes included from the New England area. The illustrator for this volume is Lois Lenski. The boards are covered with a red and which check cloth pattern which remains generally bright, although there is a bit of dulling along the spine and board edges. The corners are bumped. The end papers are a yellow and white polk adult with intact gutters front and rear. There are a few pages with light smudging but the red and dark brown illustrations are clean and bright.
