About this Item
Octavo, 33pp., illustrated. A crisp, clean copy, near fine, in the original stiff wraps with dust jacket. Spine a tinge rolled, small stain to rear jacket panel, else a very nice, sound copy of Brown's rare first book. Edwin Muir, Orkney's most famous poet, presents Brown to the reader in a one-page Introduction. Muir was one of Brown's professors at Newbattle Abbey College, and he championed Brown's early career. The Orkney Press printed just 300 copies of this volume, and they sold out within a few weeks (see Fergusson, "George Mackay Brown: The Life," pp. 119, 128). Rare in commerce, and held by fewer than two dozen libraries (only a few in the UK, and apparently just one in Brown's native Scotland (U. of Edinburgh)). Seller Inventory # 9367
