The third published work by Edwyn Bevan who was described in his 1943 obituary (loosely inserted here) as an "archeologist and historian, classical scholar and poet, philosopher and theologian, specialist in Indian problems and student of European affairs." This book is based on four lectures given by Bevan "in Oxford during the Hilary Term 1918" for the benefit of "the Common University Fund" and was printed with four corresponding chapters: Zeno and the Stoa, The Stoa (continued), Posidonius & The Sceptics.
