First Edition (first printing). 8vo. 256pp. Grey boards lettered in gold at the spine. Edges spotted and a little soiled, and with just a trace of spotting and soiling to very occasional leaf margins. A touch of wear to the backstrip ends. A very good copy in non-price-clipped pictorial dust wrapper, chipped with a little loss to the spine panel ends and corner tips, and with a little spotting and toning to the predominantly white rear panel. A respectable copy of the author's celebrated debut exploring the fortunes of Arthur Machin, a professional rugby league footballer in a northern industrial town; memorably filmed by Lindsay Anderson three years after publication.
