[Colophon]: This Edition of Sir John Chardin s Travels In Persia is the third publication of the Argonaut Press and is limited to 975 copies on Japon Vellum, numbered 1 to 975. The [falconry]design appearing on the title-page is from an old Persian tile. The volume has been printed by Walter Lewis, M.A., at the University Press, Cambridge, in the year 1927. This copy is Number 737 . 8 in. x 10 1/2 in., xxx, 287 + colophon leaf; reproduces several titlepages, and plates from the early editions, including two folding plates of engravings of Persian men's & women's costumes, etc. Vellum spine and sides with titling & bands gilt on the spine (the gilt has faded), with blue-green cloth over boards, gilt Persian seal design on front cover, green silk bookmarker bound in. Vellum spine, covers show light, age-related tanning, some light scratches, edge wear; former owner's book label on the front paste-down, and rubberstamped date in upper right margin of facing endpaper. Overall, a near fine copy; the interior is clean & crisp. The third book published by the Argonaut Press, edited by N. M. Penzer. The Persian tile design on titlepage is printed in blue & black & features a mounted man in Persian dress holding a falcon, and with a standing attendant.
