Now rare - soft-cover booklet issued by HMSO (George V) in 1915 for use by the military stationed and fighting in France during the First World War. Fascinating for the insights offered into what phrases the English military might have found useful in France at this time. To give just one example in a section sub-titled 'Information About the Enemy': "Take care; take the shortest road,and if you lead me wrong, you will be shot". ("Prenez-garde; prenez le chemin le plus court, et si vous m'egarez, vous serez fusille"). 23 pages in a mixture of pink and white colours printed and bound in soft, grey/green covers which bear creases and marks. (The rear covers have 2 probable small coffee stains). Whilst the pages throughout bear light creases, the contents are clean with no annotations and the booklet remains fully bound. There are small rust-stains from the binding staples on some pages. Deemed to be in 'Good' condition throughout. Small 8vo. Soft-cover booklet, no d/j. Seller Inventory # 220809
