214 pages. First edition, first printing. His first book in the preliminary proof dust jacket which is quite different than the final jacket. Only a few of these were printed as both Schaefer & Houghton Mifflin were not happy with it. The story was originally published in Argosy magazine in 1946 as a 3 part serial titled "Rider from Nowhere". It was revised and published in 1949. It was made into a movie in 1953 starring Alan Ladd & directed by George Stevens. Fine book in an almost fine dust jacket with the spine very slightly faded. Housed in a custom leather clamshell box.
