About this Item
First published 1969 in Arabic as "Ayyam al-insan al-sab'a". Translation copyright @ 1996 by Joseph Norment Bell. In a country village in the Nile Delta of Egypt, a group of men prepare for their annual visit to the city of Tanta, site of the mosque-shrine of the great Sufi saint Ahmad al-Badawi, to whose mystical brotherhood the men belong. The preparations and the journey take seven days the same length of time as the creation and in those seven days we see how this village is a microcosm of the universe. Kirkus Reviews called it "a richly drawn picture of Egyptian village life.". Seller Inventory # 4501
