About this Item
Probable first edition (NAP). I'm going with a Fair rating, mainly due to the condition of the covers. The condition of the pages is quite decent with only minor issues which I'll outline in a little bit. I've priced the magazine well below the couple of others that are for sale. Those others appear to be in fairly similar condition to mine. You can see the covers in the photos provided. There is a small loss at the front bottom corner. There's another small loss at the bottom edge of the spine and just adjacent to it on the front. And the same goes for the top edge of the spine, a small loss and also a tear right below it. There's also a little loss/tear over the letter 'O' in the word 'Don't' on the spine. There's a small spot of soiling off the top edge of the front and there are some lightly penned words on the front cover. For example 'Big-Time' has a light line through it and the words 'Small Time' are written above it. Also the word 'hilarious' has a light penned line through it and there is an indecipherable word above it. I'm guessing not a complimentary one. And, finally, there is a penned line through '50 cents' and a couple of indecipherable words underneath it. He may not have been happy with the price. He would very clearly be less happy with mine. Happily, he put his hand away after that. There is no writing of any kind to be found anywhere else in the book. I actually don't agree with him (of course I don't). While the humor isn't dry or witty, it's cute, and sometimes kind of funny. The more so if you count yourself as a political animal. The pages aren't numbered, but there are a generous amount of them, and there are some terrific photographs. Richard Burton whispering to Elizabeth Taylor 'I think people are starting to talk!' The Queen telling Rex Harrison (regarding her husband who in the photo seems to be talking to himself) 'Don't mind Philip. He loves to talk to himself.' It would take a long time to list all the personages found on these pages, but what the hell I have time: Nelson Rockefeller, Jackie Robinson, many of Jack Kennedy, many of the Queen, Yul Brenner, Ed Sullivan, de Gaulle, Lyndon Johnson, many of Castro, many of Khrushchev, many of Jacqueline Kennedy, Goldwater, Sinatra, Lady Bird Johnson, Eisenhower, Mao, Groucho Marx, Robert Kennedy, Adlai Stevenson, John Glenn, Princess Grace, Jacob Javits, Ethel Kennedy, Billy Graham, Jack Benny, Martin Luther King, Richard Burton, Arthur Goldberg, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Nixon. and quite a few others. The binding is stapled. There are no cracks between the covers and the pages. The pages are nicely tight. The title page has two small water stains off its edges (it's also quite toned). The verso copyright page has just one small water stain off its top edge. There are no more water stains anywhere else. There's a light crease a little below the top edge of the title page. You can see it a bit on the top page of the first photograph, but that's it. The tips of the bottom corners of the first dozen pages were turned over. I flattened them out so there's a small crease there now. The last 5 pages have a small crease at the tip of their top corners. The last of these has a very tiny tear. I don't see any other conspicuous creasing. I don't see any tears on any of the other pages. The pages are very clean. The toning that you can see on the title page is gone from the rest of the pages which are all full-page black-and-white photographs. There are no markings on any of the pages. There are no attachments in the book. And, as I said earlier, the writing on the front cover is the only writing to be found anywhere in the book. Lastly, there are two tears off the top edge of the rear cover. You can see that in the second photograph. There's also a little bit of darkening or soiling on the rear cover just adjacent to the spine. Seller Inventory # 003418
