About this Item
Sir Horace Plunkett was an Irish agricultural reformer who came from a landowning background (Dunsany Castle). He spent a number of years ranching in the US and was close to President Roosevelt. He advocated a system of agricultural co-operatives. This copy is from the library of Canadian born agricultural and social reformer Christopher Turnor who appears to have reviewed the book. Turnor inherited large estates in Lincolnshire and subsequently left Canada for England to manage them. He wrote several books on agricultural reform and twas involved in several government reports on agricultural and educational matters. The book has a blind stamped 'Presentation Copy' on the title page. On the inside cover is written 'Reviewed for the Morning Post July 1910' followed by the full review in presumably his own handwriting. This occupies 9pp covering the blank eps at front and rear including the half title and printers' page! The book itself is rubbed to the spine ends and corners. The title to the spine is rubbed withsome loss to the gilt. The book has Christopher Turnor's own private library number in black ink to mid spineand small leather section number (G9) at the foot of the spine. This does not have his bookplate in, because of the review. I have a number of books from his library which have the same leather section details and his bookplate. Seller Inventory # 001708
