Stated 'First Edition March 1967.' An uncommon book offered at a discount. You can see the covers in the photos. They're very clean. There is color fade off the top edge of the front cover and top edge of the spine. That's the only conspicuous wear on the covers. The book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages and nicely tight covers as well. The inside covers and end papers are perfectly clean. As far as I can see, the same is the case with all of the pages, exceptionally clean. The pages are also free of any creasing, no turned-down corners or placeholder creases. The only flaw: there are a handful of nicks on the bottom page edge, and each one created a corresponding nick at the bottom edge of several pages. On one page the nick removed a tiny bit of paper. All of these small nicks are obviously very far from the print. There are no markings in the book. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. It too has color fade at the front top edge. There's also the outline of a water stain on the spine and crossing over onto the front (the stain had zero impact on the book). Other wear consists of a few small tears at the spine ends and a couple of scuffs. The flaps are in very solid condition, no issues. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. It will be fitted with a protective cover after the photos are scanned. From chapter 1: 'Since the time of the Norman Conquest, there has been a continuity in English law and institutions that has been unique in the Western world. For all the changes that have occurred-- hardly a law remains unaltered-- the essentials of the English system are the same as those Blackstone described in the eighteenth century, Coke in the seventeenth, Littleton in the fifteenth, Bracton in the thirteenth, and Glanville in the twelfth. Eventful though the life of English law and institutions may have been in the near thousand years since 1066, it has been but a single life.' From the dust jacket: 'The Roots of Freedom is one of those unusual books-- clearly written, stimulating, and interpretive-- which will appeal to the student as well as to the layman.'.
