They lit the fuse of the mine whose explosion was to make an end of monarchy in Russia. On Wednesday the 22nd of February 1917 the capital seemed in much the same state as during the past few weeks. The atmosphere was tense, but so it had been for months past. People were nervous, jumpy, starting at shadows, waiting for they knew not what. --- Thursday dawned, a bleak, icy winter's day. Before the sun rose, the Russian Revolution had commenced'. [Quote from Chapter Seven, 'The Eight Days' p97. ***Alban Godwin Gordon (1890 - 1947) was a British political activist.
