"This is a curious work, part memorial to the unfortunate Tweddell (who died suddenly of fever and whose journals of Athenian antiquities were mysteriously lost) and part viscious attack on Lord Elgin who was trying to arrange the sale of his marbles to the nation". With a few full page plates and maps of Tweddell's travels. Full leather, back joint partly cracking, front joint cracked and upper board beginning to detach. Spine has light wear and abrasion but the gilt decoration is still attractive on the shelf and the leather label intact. Foxing to endpapers, some browing here and there to a few pages. Some pages have light offsetting to the print of a neighbouring page but this appears to have occured in the printing stage as it is not always the numerically facing page.Very good.
