Dillingham Company in 1904 in USA). ***Illustrated with fourteen black and white illustrations (as called for) by Louis D. Arata including frontispiece showing: 'He passed by with Miss Jeffreys on his arm to illustrate page 24'. Two-page preface by the author dated 1 June 1904 to the fore. ***Very good in brown cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to spine and front board and white borders to front board. Please note that the plain blank front free endpaper has been removed (probably where an owner's name has been). Edges of boards slightly rubbed. Bottom corner of rear board slightly bumped. No inscriptions. Spine tight. (Quote from the preface by the author, Brooklyn, New York, June 1, 1904). ***Cyrus Townsend Brady (1861- 1920) was a journalist, historian and writer of adventure novels. His best-known work is Indian Fights and Fighters. He was born in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1883. In 1889, he was ordained a deacon in the Episcopal church, and a priest in 1890. Brady's first major book was For Love of Country, telling the story of a fictitious John Seymour, based partially on the true heroic adventures of Nicholas Biddle, one of the first five captains of the fledgling Continental Navy. He was a prolific author.
