About this Item
[Descartes], Schneider, Johannes David Schneiderus, Ferber, Johanne Jacobo Ferbero. Qua Principium Cartesii De Omnibus Est Dubitandum, …MDCCXVI…Argentorati [Strasburg] Imprimatbat Simon Kunsneri, Cancell. Typogr. Quarto, [4], 24 pages. In paper wraps, in good condition with some fraying at corners. This is a doctoral dissertation by Schneider, directed by Ferber. The topic, as the title indicates, is accommodating Decartes dictum that everything should be doubted, to the requirements of faith. Two hundred years later, Kierkegaard discusses the same topic, with a different perspective. Schneider argues, against numerous critics, that Descartes dictum is not actually impious, abominable and heretical. This is a pretty difficult document to find. Various Biblical Encyclopedias list the pamphlet as by Ferber, whose name is listed in a verge large type-face above that of Schneider, whose dissertation it is. Two libraries in Germany have copies.
