First edition hardcover, published by Charles Scribner's Sons, 1924. A collection of speeches and addresses of the 30th President of the United States, Calvin Coolidge. Included is his inaugural address as Vice President, tributes to Theodore Roosevelt, Andrew Carnegie, Ulysses S. Grant, and William McKinley. Also included are speeches on 'Moral Law', 'The Place of Lincoln', 'Destiny of America', 'The Needs of Education', the title speech - 'The Price of Freedom, a total of thirty speeches and addresses are included. Dark blue cloth covered cover boards, with the title and author name imprinted on the spine and front cover. The name of the former owner is blind stamped on the front cover board. The former owner was Fred Estabrook, who was Director of Shawmut Bank and member of the Republican National Committee of New Hampshire. Cover boards have some edge wear, bump marks, a small chip on the back panel in the spine gutter about the size of a sesame seed, tips of the corners are worn. 'Fred Estabrook' stamped name is partially rubbed away. All other lettering is intact and legible. 420 pages with Index, 5-3/4" X 8-1/4". No dust jacket. Protective tissue sheet facing the frontispiece illustration is intact. Couple of stain spots on the top edge of the text block near the spine, largest is about the size of a raisin. Rough edges to the text block fore edge. Vertical crack in the spine gutter at the back paste-down runs the height of the book, so the binding at the back cover is loose. All text pages are intact, the back cover is just loose, still attached by the webbing of the text block binding. Not a library discard copy. Attached photos are of the copy we have in our inventory.
