Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1860, 1860 printing. Dark red/brown cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine; boards pattered, ruled at edges and bearing T&F insignia with decorative flourishes at center of both boards. Fraying head/tail, general wear with age. A portrait of Rose Terry Cooke as she was later known is tipped in free matter; it is evidently a newspaper portrati as there is a strong acid transfer to opposite free page; also appears someone razor it out subsequent to its addition, Chocolate end papers with free end paper at front missing. Bookplate of Herbert Foster Knowles at front paste-down. All text block is intact and flows freely. First edition. Octavo. 231, [1], 16 (publisher's catalog dated December, 1860).
