Contemporary boards with later cloth spine, paper title-label, 36 cm, 2 preliminary leaves, 22 pages 20 plates (including 1 double) (plate 15 is misnumbered 18 and plate 20 is misnumbered 22, as issued). An interesting and well-illustrated 19th century account of the Great Hall at Eltham Palace which still stands, now under the care of English Heritage, and boasts the third-largest hammerbeam roof in England. Henry VIII grew up at Eltham Palace and, aged nine, famously impressed Erasmus there with his ' dignity of mind combined with a remarkable courtesy' when Erasmus visited in the company of Thomas More. Tiny oval booklabel of the Earl of Ilchester on front pastedown endpaper, old waterstains to boards and to a few leaves, affecting roughly the upper quarter of plates 18 to 20 (otherwise largely confined to margins), a little edgewear to boards and contents, contents agetoned with scattered light foxing,creasing to endpapers and tissueguards.
