Green cloth covers with titles to spine.names and neat inscription on blank prelims.Blook is tight,clean and appears as unread.Dist wrapper is clean and bright,a few small chips top and bottom of spine.Scottish-born Peter Fraser came to NZ in 1910 when in his mid-20s and a carpenter by trade. In NZ he quickly renewed his Socialist associations and was closely involved with the establishment of the Labour Party and by the mid-1930s, the time of the Great Depression, it was strong enough to govern the country. In its first (1935) Cabinet Fraser was Deputy-Prime Minster to Michael Joseph Savage. Fraser was acting-Prime Minster when the Second World War broke out in 1939 and became PM when Savage died ear;y in 1940. The biography is sub-titled "New Zealand's Wartime Prime Minister" and he held that position till 1949 when Labour lost office. Fraser died in late 1950. This was the first major biography on Fraser and covers, in particular deatail, the social and economic reforms of the first Labour Government and its stewardship of NZ affairs during WWII.
