About this Item
Eight colored etchings on steel by Alfred Ashley. A wild romp in a satirical novel. Octavo, rebound in three-quarter 19th century morocco, raised bands, marbled boards. Lacks the publisher's catalogue at the rear. Short closed tear in bottom edge of engraved title-page. Spine dulled, and wear at cover edges. The Clodpole plate (from opposite page 66) appears as a frontispiece opposite the illustrated title-page. The artist, Alfred Ashley, had published THE ART OF ETCHING ON COPPER in 1849 [Sadleir 1223].
