About this Item
FIRST EDITION PRESENTATION COPY. 1 vol., inscribed on the front blank endleaf "Dear Miss. Case with respectful sentiments from Evelyn Waugh", original blue cloth boards, gilt lettered spine, with the DJ, not price clipped, NEAR FINE/VERY GOOD. Margaret Case worked at Vogue for around 40 years, mostly as an editor. She appears to have met Waugh whilst they were on board the Queen Elizabeth. In 1971 she was unceremoniously fired from the magazine and tragically killed herself a few days later. There a number of references to Margaret in Waugh's letters. In one letter to Nancy Mitford dated November 1948 Waugh writes "A lady called Miss Case is in love with me- unreciprocated". Seller Inventory # 001745
