Isao Hirachi (born 1945) is the "Annie Leibovitz'' of Japanese photography. He has dedicated his career to portraying famous individuals and showcasing their stories in numerous photo books. The Onsen Geisha is an unconventional artistic project where the author creates a small world reminiscent of Toulouse Lautrec's interventions in the world of Parisian brothels. Onsen, a resort designed for healing and entertainment in hot springs, is a favorite Japanese weekend activity. Recently, it has become challenging to find a resort that offers geisha services. Hirachi's poetic optics do not depict onsen geisha as snow fairies in a surreal neverland. His documentary book makes them more visible, calling them by names and narrating their stories.
