British illustrated edition, first printing, November 1940. First thus. With original clipped jacket. Nicolas Bentley drew the pictures. First published in an unillustrated edition in September 1939, this is the true first printing of the first illustrated edition. Jacket has faults - namely edge/shelf wear, numerous marks, patchy browning (including quite badly to spine), a few tears (largest approx. 2cms), creasing/rubbing to edges, patchy loss (mainly to head/tail of spine and to corners), minor foxing, a little pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine, little pushing/bumping to corners, the odd small scratch, little patchy creasing/rubbing/browning/spots of foxing to front/back inner flaps and is in only fair condition. Boards are very good (having been generally well protected by the jacket) with a hint of pushing/bumping to corners, patchy browning (including to spine), few marks, minor foxing, the odd small bump/rub to edges and a little pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine. Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight. Rough cut page bottoms. Previous owner's name in pen to front end-paper. Pages bit tanned. Top edge of pages have the odd small mark/minor foxing. Odd small mark/spots of foxing to page edges and bottoms. Inside boards/end-papers have the odd small mark/mild foxing. Occasional small marks/scattered foxing to pages. No other faults.
