Brown cloth with black ill. to front and gilt sp. lettering, a small black mark lower sp., hint only of corner bumping, sp. ends unrubbed, in protective sleeve as acquired. f/piece with tissue guard + ix + 304 + (3, 1837 time-tables of Scotch and Irish mails discussed in final chapter), 7 further ex-pagination full page plates, with tanned tissue guards, by Sturgess, a woodcut text fig., 6 diagrams on 3 pages in text, dark decorated end-papers, uncut fore-edge: two small brown marks to inner side of each end-paper, apparently from tape removal, fairly innocuous, faintly off-set to half-title and traces to outer sides also. Prev. owner's 4 line note of 3 coaching slang expressions (e.g. yard of tin - coaching horn) slipped in front under protective sleeve. Scarce, especially in this good condition. 15 cm x 23 cm.
