This VG- quality first edition book was published in 1926 by Lothrop, Le & Shepard. It is format #1, as per the Mattson & Davis bibliography (Lothrop, Lee & Shepard Co.; 8"; various colors of cloth [blue, gray, green, rust, red] with black or dark blue lettering; cover has photographic applique, different for each title; profusely illustrated from photographs, prints, paintings, etc.; page listing all illustrations. White coated paper dust jacket, pictorial, in black & white, same as book). It has 321 numbered pages. It is square, very clean, free of corner bumps and edge dings; the head and heel of the spine are very lightly bumped, also with no fabric damage (see photo); bottom edges have a very little wear. The front panel and spine illustrations, as well as the front panel applique, are intact and not damaged (see photos). However, there is some fabric damage--at the top of the front panel, at both front corners, at the head and heel of the spine and along the top edge of the rear panel. In each of those locations, the paint has dissolved, leaving the binding fibers exposed. I have no idea what happened to this book--it is not water damage because there are no water stains anywhere in the book. The interior is completely free of writing, stray marks and paper damage of any type; several pages have small, non-intrusive stains in the margins. Both hinges are strong and undamaged; the front paste down and FFEP (see photo) are unique. The paper has toned only slightly and the pages are very flexible. The G+ quality jacket is lightly soiled with chips (at the spots that the binding is damaged) along the top front panel, at all four corners, at the heel of the spine ans at the middle of the spine at the rear gutter.
