About this Item
First impression of the first UK edition. Originally published in the USA by Phaedra, New York the previous year. With a two-page foreword by the author explaining the genesis of the stories. ***Very good in red cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. Gilt still nice and bright. Boards clean but there is a light splash stain to the bottom of the back board, and a corresponding small light stain at the bottom of the fore-edge of the page block which affects the bottom corners of the first few pages - hardly noticeable though. No inscriptions. Spine tight. No dustwrapper. ***202mm x 135mm. 222 pages. ***Contents: "An Affair of Honor", "Lik", "The Vane Sisters" and "The Visit to the Museum". ***"Nabokov's Quartet" is a collection of four of Vladimir Nabokov's short stories, spanning four decades. Three were originally written (and published) in Russian and are translated by Nabokov's son Dmitri Nabokov. The fourth story, "The Vane Sisters", was written in 1951 and first published in The Hudson Review in 1959 (after it had been turned down by The New Yorker). It's one of the last stories Nabokov wrote before switching his production entirely to novels and poetry and it's rated amongst his best. ***First impression of the first UK edition. A good reading copy. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Seller Inventory # 7807
