First McLean printing of this costume book originally issued by William Miller. Fine full red morocco binding with gilt decoration on boards and spine, all edges gilt. Spine, corners and edges are rubbed. Front end paper cracked at joint. Plates have discoloured opposing pages, prints however are clean and bright, Ink stain on fore edge. Previous owners book plate on front end paper. Front cover starting. 31 hand-colored aquatint costume plates. Printed by W. Lewis. This is a heavy / oversized item so may incur higher postage rates. We are two bibliophiles currently selling some of the books from the collection of the actor Paul Scofield. This includes many first editions signed and given to him by the authors as well as working copies of the many plays he performed in. There is a nice collection of books relating to his role as Sir Thomas More in the 1966 play 'A Man for all Seasons' We've tried to give as much detail as possible on the condition of our books but are more than happy to send more photos if required.
