Quarter bound with polished brown calf spine, sides & corner-pieces; maroon morocco label on spine with author's name gilt; the title label has partly chipped away, gilt lines across spine & gilt year: 1887, with marbled paper-covered boards and matching endpapers; top-edge gilt. Wear to spine ends & cover edges/corners, with some abrasions front cover starting; with heraldic bookplate: I MEAN WELL, as motto (or name?), and another printed book label under this on the front marbled paste-down. Some age-related tanning to flyleaves. Lower spine & back cover shows damp-staining, with similar staining to lower edges of pages at the margin corners (pp. 185-299).
