Uncommon pedagogical tract type juvenile novel - apparently 1st published in England as "Mark Churchill; or, The Boy in Earnest." Presumed 1st and only US edition. Illustrated with tissue guarded frontis and few plates from woodcuts. Binding a bit shelf cocked but sound. Some light silverfish predation swaths to cloth boards. Scarce - no copies of the US edition found in institutional libraries searched by Woirldcat. Extensive catalog of Lothrop published titles appended at rear with woodcut illustrations. Overall VG-.
