About this Item
This book, being the annual journal of the Manx Society, has an interesting history of its own. It has a bookplate for Sir Lawrence Gomme who was a founder of both the Folklore Society and the Victoria County Histories. Gomme died in 1916 ad presumably his library was then sold up as this book has a note dated 9.7.1918 in it saying it is sent as a birthday present (from friends?) to William Taylor. Taylor was a presiding judge in Liverpool and acted as Judge of Appeal for the Isle of Mann and has added his details on a end paper. He has also annotated page 37 which gives the text of the Manx oath for justices, detailing when it was administered to himself. Normally such annotations would distract from the books value, but here, I think, the opposite is true. Seller Inventory # HIS089
