Blue boards with black title on spine. 342 pages including index and bibliography, 12 pages b&w illustrations and 6 pages of maps of sections of the Canal. There is a small label of the previous owner, and three neatly pasted in cuttings from "The Scotsman" relating to the purchase of the Suez Canal shares by the British government. Also, there is a typewritten letter, once pasted in but now loose, from the author to the previous owner, relating to the Thorburn family, long time residents in Egypt. *** DUST JACKET in very good condition, slight corner wear, now Trimsleeve protected.*** CONTENTS: Even by the standards of the day, the making of the Suez Canal was a major benchmark, and like so many expensive projects financial chicanery on an epic scale was involved.
