BOOK DESCRIPTION: 4to, 325 pgs, frontis with tissue, plates, 4 folding maps. Green cloth with black and gold gilt, spine with gilt title. CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Covers soiled, lower corners worn, spine darkened. Interior pages are clean and tight. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: A West Point graduate in 1852, he served 4 years prior to resigning. Upon the out-break of the Rebellion, he was commissioned Colonel of the 27th NY Inf. Through his solid soldiering, he was promoted to Maj.Gen. in July 1862. Commanded the 12th Corps and 5th Corps at Gettysburg. Assumed command of the Military District of Vicksburg in April, 1864 and later the 20th Corps as part of Sherman's Campaign into Georgia. His last assignment was in command of the Dept. of the Mississippi. This very nicely produced book is a tribute to his life and military service. Seller Inventory # 1221014
