this is a very interesting lot, comprising of an original book from 1869 on Temple Bar in London, Temple Bar was originally the principle ceremonial entrance to the city of London from the city of Westminster, and had been relocated to Theobold?s Park, the book originally the property of Ernest Bryan Gipps who was the Leader of the Folkestone Municipal Orchestra, with his armorial bookplate to front pastedown the book was later owned by G. F. Morrell, who was a well-known Graphic artist who worked for the Graphic Newspaper, loosely inserted in this copy is an original type written article by Morrell about the possible relocation of Temple Bar in London, with some suggestions on new possible sites for the monument, the article is accompanied with six original photographs by Morrell, some of which have been cleverly composited with an early form of photoshop to show some possible new sites for Temple Bar, The article is not dated, but is signed by Morrell at the end, I have not been able to find out if the article was published in any newspaper or magazine, further research may find the answer also pasted into the book is a postcard showing temple bar at its later location in Theobold?s Park, and an original engraving of Temple Bar Gate at its original location where Fleet Street meets The Strand, the books covers are noticeably sunned with some edge bumping and fraying wear at spine ends, with a small nick to the cloth on the spine, internally some straining to inner joints, a few mild marks and light creases else in good condition A NICE PIECE OF HISTORY CONCERNING TEMPLE BAR GATE IN LONDON.
