Published separately 3 years before the third volume. At the end of the 1st volume the errata page states. 'Errata for both volumes. The Author is in his Seventieth Year, and never pretended to be an accurate Writer.' An eccentric man, Thicknesse ordered that at his death his right hand should be cut off and given to his son Baron Audley, "who was inattentive" (Wikipedia). Brown cloth. Vol. 1 spine detached but present. Vol. 2 spine missing. Corners worn. Boards barely attached except rear board vol 1 which is firm. Pages undulating, and there are a couple of loose pages in vol 1. A little foxing to pre and postlims, and a thin brown stain affecting upto 3cm of the outer bottom corner of about a third of the pages in vol 1. Text otherwise clean. Externally poor. Scarce.
