VERY RARE gilded & embossed illustrated hardcover book. "The Long Trail" By Herbert Strang. Illustrated by H. Evison. With a colour Frontispiece by A. della Vale. This book is believed to be the First Edition, published by Humphrey Milford Oxford University Press, 1919. 12mo, 19.5 cm x 13.5 cm x 4 cm, Blue decorated cloth-covered boards, Gilt & black embossed lettering and yellow, green, white & black decoration on spine, Yellow, green, white & black decoration on front cover, All edges dyed blue. 284 pages. Weight: 491 Grams. CONTENTS ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION!!! However, there is a crack forming in between pages 272 and 273, and in spine tail area between last page and last free end paper. Spine is discoloured, scuffed & slightly marked, bumped & frayed either end, small splits in cloth at tail, gilt very dull, lettering and colour decoration a little worn away but fully visible. Cover is scuffed and marked in places (more so at back), colour decoration visible & detailed but slightly worn away & scuffed in parts, edges worn, scuffed & bumped, front cover slightly bowed. Corners are slightly bumped, all scuffed & faded. Paper sticker from previous owner on 1st free end paper, some damage to sticker. Some pages (very few) have tiny edge bumps & nicks, and/or darker foxing stains. Page 15/16 has a fold. Page 131/132 has small edge tear. Outer edges slightly scratched, top edge is darkened. Very light age tanning & occasional foxing throughout, more pronounced on end papers. VERY RARE ITEM, BEAUTIFUL INSIDE!!! Full title: "The Long Trail - A Story of African Adventure".
