About this Item
First Edition (NAP). You can see the textured covers in the photos. I don't see any conspicuous soiling. There are a few places on the front cover where the blue is little lighter. They may be the slightest bit of an indent closing those. The gilt lettering on the front cover is very bright. On the spine it is a little less so. The spine is slightly toned, the dark blue of the front and rear lightened. At the bottom of the spine is simply 'P.C.', the initials of the publisher. There is a small spot over part of the 'P'. There is a sliver of loss at the top edge of the spine (second photo). The cover edges are in very nice shape, no rubbing. The same is true of the corners. There is one small, slightly darkened area on the top page edge and there is one small, slightly darkened area on the bottom page edge. They have no impact at all on any of the actual pages. The book is solidly bound. On some early pages the bottom half of the pages is a little tighter at the junctures than the top half but there are no cracks or spaces between any of these or any other facing pages in the book. If you pull (though you wouldn't) at the frontispiece near its top edge it will pull away a little from the juncture, but the frontispiece is solidly bond as well. The covers are nicely, tightly bound. The pages are also exceptionally clean. I actually turned all of them over. I didn't see any soiling. There are no turned-down corners or placeholder creases. I saw maybe a half dozen or so little crinkles. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. There is a thin, light scratch/scuff on the front side of the blank first end paper, and there is a similar thin, light scratch/scuff on the rear side of the rear end paper. There are a good number of photographs throughout the book. They are all in excellent condition. The book explores life in mill communities. The chapter headings indicate what they examined. After a Preface and Introduction they are Historical, The Village, Religion, Education, Health, Community Life, Cost Of Living, Credit, and Income. A Selected Bibliography and Appendix end the book.
