Closed tears to foot of leaf B4 (touching text without loss), scattered foxing. Inked ownership inscription and pencilled note of Andrew Jervise to recto of front blank fly-leaf. The, apparently unrecorded, presumed first edition of a biography of Hugh Mackay (d. 1692), commander-in-chief of the forces in Scotland during 1689 and 1690, Colonel Commandant of the Scottish Brigade in the service of the States General, and sometime Privy Counsellor. Andrew Jervise (1820-1878), Scottish compositor and antiquary, author of numerous histories and memoirs, including, but not limited to; Sketches of the History and Traditions of Glenesk (1852), History and Traditions of the Land of the Lindsays (1853), and Memorials of Angus and the Mearns (1861).
