(6), 7-240 pages. Illustrated. 195x140mm. Original publisher's cloth, spine and front board lettered red, with unclipped dust jacket. Double page coloured illustrated plate serves as frontispiece and title-page. Black and white illustrations throughout the text. The colour illustration used on the dust jacket and title page was from an original design by an Eskimo artist in the possession of Quintin Riley The author of this adventure story for boys and girls was a polar explorer, biographer and novelist. He accompanied the undergraduate explorer Henry 'Gino' Watkins on a number of expeditions in Canada and Greenland. Slight wear to dust jacket and some foxing to edges of text block, otherwise a very good copy of the first edition free from any damage, library stamps, inscriptions or other markings.
