xii / 275 pp numerous illustrations, coloured and black and white, bound in padded, pebbled leather, gilt title to front and spine, decorative endpapers, all edges gilt. Sadly worn copy of an attractive edition, leather much rubbed with wear to spine ends and corners, front hinge cracked and weak, a little foxing and tanning to pages , gilt at margins of rear endpapers tarnished, boards a little bowed. Hardcover (6" x 4 1/4" x 7/8" ), green with white artwork and a full color vignette of a girl in Victorian costume. Good-to-Very Good condition. Some of the white lettering is faded, especially on the faded spine. Text includes the poem and a 20-page Preface by the author/poet. Refers to previous twenty editions. The cover is slightly on the edge and the back cover. The pages are lightly tanned, and free of marks and notes. No tears or damage. Engraved drawings in Victorian style. No foxing except one spot on the bottom edge of the page-block. 309 pages. Binding stout and square. Packaged using bubble wrap and a sturdy cardboard box. Tracking number provided for no extra cost. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Thomas McIlvaine (illustrator). Vignette Edition. The cover has red and white cloth with letters and decoration in gilt. The top end of the text block has gilt; the other two ends are glossy brown. The contents are titled, Preface, The Veiled Prophet of Khorassan, Paradise and the Peri, 'The Fire-Worshippers, and The Light of the Haram. Also there are footnotes and 100 b/w illustrations, full-page and small. One board corner is slightly bumped. The back board has a linear 3/8 in., light stain. The spine strip's top edge is a little wrinkled; the bottom edge is a little darkened from shelf wear soiling. The front FEP has gift inscription with a date in 1891. The back endpaper's fold is split over the hinge and tipped back together with glue. The DJ is paper lined, red cloth.
