Illustrated with numerous engraved illustrations (some folding). Frontispiece portrait of Michelangelo by Dubouchet. A handsomely-bound special issue of "Gazette des Beaux-Arts" published on the 400th anniversary of Michelangelo's birth. Spearheaded by the journal's founding editor Charles Blanc, the issue offered the most complete and scholarly study of Michelangelo published in 19th century France. It includes essays by Eugene Guillaume, Paul Mantz, Charles Garnier and others. A very good copy with some light wear to the leather spine. The text is very good with light wear. The engravings on heavier paper have some foxing. Scarce. Foreign postage extra on this heavy book. Seller Inventory # 10854
