About this Item
1st edition. 8vo. xv + 285pp. Colour frontispiece, photo illustrations, 2 folding colour maps. Pictorial blue cloth, top edge gilt. Slight wear to the head of the spine. And, some fading. Clean within. Very good overall. One of the most important 20th Century overland and canoeing travel narratives to the north. Douglas and two companions embarked on this trip to explore for copper deposits initially sought by Samuel Hearne, and to determine if economic deposits actually existed (they found none). Douglas met John Hornby at Dease River, and took photographs of that meeting. Aside from the lively, descriptive narrative, almost every second page is illustrated with photographs of the expedition, including the surrounding landscape, their campsites, and the people they encountered.
