Bookplate affixed to first free end paper. This historical novels tells the life story of Alonso de Ojeda, a prototypical Spanish explorer and conquistador, who was an early settler of Hispaniola. Vicente Blasco Ibáñez was a Spanish journalist, politician, and best-selling novelist known for his passionately antimonarchical position. Ibáñez faced consistent political persecution in Spain before moving to France following World War I. He achieved international renown through U.S. film adaptations of some of his novels.
