About this Item
First Edition ( SD, 'Published October, 1936' ). Quite uncommon, only two others for sale on the Internet. I'm pricing my book at half their prices because it lacks its dust jacket. The green covers are in nice condition, no conspicuous soiling, a little yellowing, presumably sun against green. Crinkling at the spine ends, a little rubbing as well. Very bright black lettering on the front and spine. Nice illustration on the front. Excellent cover edges. Very good corners, though the front bottom one has a spot of rub-through. Very clean page edges. Pretty square, pretty straight spine. Monkey watching a butterfly on the half-title page. Five monkeys hanging in the jungle trees on the full-page frontispiece. Illustrations by the author. Small ones and large ones. Jungle confrontations: monkeys against alligators, tigers, birds of prey, hunters. Survival. Solid binding throughout. Nicely tight covers. Clean pages. Very small losses at the tips of two consecutive top corners. Pinprick-sized loss at the top edge of a few consecutive pages. No significant creasing, no turned-down corners or placeholder creases. No markings of any kind. No attachments. No names. No writing. The first paragraph of the Introduction: 'This story of the blue monkey people is based on my actual observations of the monkeys in their jungle home. I camped in many jungles in East Africa with the blue monkeys were my nearest neighbors, though I found the best opportunities for studying them in the Ruvu Jungle. I learned to know their roads through treetops, their jumping places, their drumming trees; where they went for food and where they played and slept; even as I also learned the ways of the Wakahe natives, some of whom were members of my safari.'.
