Gutheim, with tissue guard. Decorative initial. Outlines of the history of Congregation Temple Sinai, dealing with preceding chronicles of the Jewish community of New Orleans. Dedicated to Rabbi James Koppel Gutheim. The anniversary publication contains chapters on pioneer times, the building of synagogues, organizing for charity and education, outstanding personalities, the yellow fever, the Civil War and reconstruction, orthodoxy and reform, a chapter on James Koppel Gutheim, organization, cornerstone and consecration of Temple Sinai, the Sicily Island Colony and other historically important matters of the congregation. The book is illustrated with b/w offset reproductions of portrait photographs of notable members of the congregation, e.g Judah Touro, Reverend, Benjamin Morgan Palmer, Michael Frank, Ferdinand Marks, Joseph Magner, Joseph Kohn, Rabbi Max Heller, Rev.
