About this Item
xvi, 239 + 217pp + adverts. 2 of 4 vols. No frontis present but the plate is. Edited by John Eagles posthumously. Real name Llewellin Williams taking Penrose from a local shipbuilder. Fictional account with the possibility that it was based on notes left by his fathers years at sea, years in America, some of it spent amongst Indian tribes. The section forming one of the earliest critiques of slavery is regretably in the other volumes but maybe the reason that the bookplate of William Maxwell Alexander to both volumes, regarded by some as to be the first novel written in America between 1750-1775. Cracking to joint, light wear to boards, internally clean and tight. 800g. Seller Inventory # 004775
